Ad Wars 0.3.2 Fix 1 Changelog
Hey everyone! Based on player feedback of the initial release, I've made a new update that fixes most problems that people were having, and some new QoL features as well!
-Level 1 (Bullet Hell) Tutorial
One of my goals for this game is to focus on action and gameplay, and not waste time on tutorials and gui, so Level 1 jumps quickly into action, but that meant players didn't get to know all the different controls for the Bullet Hell so I added a built in tutorial that quickly explains it.
-New display modes
The initial early access version of Ad Wars used a method of scaling to fit screens that adds black bars. While this works for many displays, it won't display the pixel art in 1:1, so it will get strected.
I added 2 display modes in order to fix this
What I call Cropped mode. Basically it displays 1:1 art and crops down the exterior image to fit in the screen. This is EXPERIMENTAL as it won't work with every display and every type of gameplay yet. It will require a ton of work in the future to make it truly compatible with a big set of monitors, but I think it's the perfect solution for displaying the game correctly.
Cropped Scaling
Default Scaling
-Re-enabled a Heart on Level 2 (before battling the Gatekeeper)
Just before building the release, it got disabled by accident. Level 2 should be more accessible to new players.
-Level 1 Ads are now weaker
The Level 1 Ads had too much health! They were almost imposible to destroy with Alt's initial blaster charge, so I lowered their health to better values.
-Added a new "Intro" screen that shows up the first time you open the game
In the future I plan to add a way to *enter options* from here, so people get to start the game with their preferences already set up.
-Hold F2 to Exit the game
I watched that some people had issues exiting the game. I always use alt + f4, but I know not everyone uses it, so I added a way to exit the game, by pressing F2 for a couple of seconds.
-Showcase mode (for streamers / reviewers)
After watching some streams, I realized that some indie game streamers only get 10 to 15 minutes of time to show a game, and the Intro episode of Ad Wars lasts about 30 minutes, so I added a way (by pressing F6) to skip levels so they can quickly showcase the different types of gameplay.
-The RPG victory theme was kinda messed up. The timing and duration broke just before building up for the early access release. It should work correctly now
-Bugfixes (Thanks Betatesteando for reporting many of them!).
That's it for now! I'll keep watching people play Ad Wars and also listen to player feedback, and I may release more of these patches while I find ways to polish the game further.
Thank you all for playing Ad Wars and for the feedback!
